A Feel Good Moment for All Baseball Fans

By now everyone’s seen the headlines about the fan interference against Mookie Betts and the crazy hot streak Freddie Freeman is on after yet another home run last night in Game 4 of the World Series.

But here’s a story that feels good regardless of fandom: childhood best friends Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells stepping up together in one of the biggest games of their lives.

Volpe and Wells both went yard in Game 4. Volpe pulled a Grand Slam into the left field bleachers to put the Yankees ahead, and Wells helped keep the lead with a missile to right field later on (with a nice bat flip for the cameras).

Hitting a grand slam… in your home stadium… for the team, you’ve cheered on forever… to save them from elimination… AND doing it all with the guy you used to eat chicken parm after little league practice with… literally a dream come true.

In an interview last night Volpe said: “To have a moment like that, for him to have a moment like that is special. But to do it together, you can't trade it for anything."

Great reminder to fans watching around the world that youth baseball isn’t just about two teams. It’s about building communities and lifelong bonds and memories. Isn’t that truly winning?
