The Braves homestand started with a bang – two straight wins over the Marlins and perfect weather. But, the Marlins blanked us 7-0 Sunday, and Monday’s day off only led to a 10-0 drubbing by the Brewers last night. Even Tuesday’s OutKast night was a major letdown. The ATLiens couldn’t save us from this slump.

My seat neighbor Mary Lou keeps me positive and reminds me of 2021. We all know how that glorious year ended, but quickly forget that we were below .500 entering August.

Today, we still sit 8 games over .500 despite our offensive production being bottom five in the MLB. It ain’t over til it’s over, baby!

Words of the Wise from Mary Lou

Mary Lou is over 90 years old and attends every Braves game. She does not miss one. Okay, she actually did miss one, telling me in April, “I’m not going to be here July 22nd because I have to pick up my daughter from the airport. I’m not happy about it.”

She listens to the radio the whole game which is an immense wealth of knowledge. Replay? Mary Lou knows what’s going on in the booth. Trivia? Turns out Fenway and Dodgers Stadium have seen the most no-hitters of all time. Attendance? She’ll tell you right around the sixth inning.

She is one of the best parts of games for me. Sometimes all we do is say Hi at the start and Goodbye at the end, but it’s a constant I always enjoy in 324 row 7.

Every fan should have a Mary Lou to remind them that baseball is more than just wins and losses – we’re a community.
